‘I went to a new glitzy London restaurant with a rooftop and tables made for dancing’

Penelope’s is part of the Amano Hotel Group, and is a boujiee restaurant for pre-theatre, brunch or lunch and dinner.
From a flower-arched entrance to a raised bath filled with disco balls, the interior of the restaurant/bar is absolutely stunning – giving that up-market, glitzy feel.
Each table is embellished with colourful flowers, and the venue gives off that ‘special occasion’ type of vibe.
There’s also an absolutely stunning rooftop bar which overlooks the London skyline.
Penelope’s calls itself an immersive dining experience, and its menu combines the flavours of Spain and Israel.
The restaurant boasts a carefully created menu showcasing culinary influences of Ariel Schiff, AMANO’s co-founder, who grew up between Tel Aviv and southern Spain.
I went to Penelope’s for its newest brunch offering, which starts at 12pm every Sunday.
There was a DJ, free-flow bubbly, and it was a chance to dine, drink and dance.
Although the perfect venue for enjoying an alcoholic tipple and getting tipsy, my friend and I decided to stay sober due to a heavy night the night before.
I sometimes think mocktails can be a bit try-hard, but after having tried two different mocktails at Penelope’s, I retract that.
The green apple and cotton candy based “Carrusel” was a balance between sweet and bitter, and I’m not afraid to admit I drank three of the “Seniorita D” drinks which combined mango, lychee and ginger beer.
They were divine, and I was glad I went for a non-alcoholic party option for my brunch.
We both chose the smashed avocado to eat which came with poached eggs and some fluffy beetroot borani.
With Shakshuka, tortillas and Penelope’s own version of a full English on the menu, it was hard to choose just one thing.
The poached egg yolks were bright orange in colour, and the whites burst dramatically when hit with my knife.
The flavours complimented each other well and when paired with some pan con tomate and the market salad, I felt like I was eating abroad.
I got that feeling when you just know you’re eating really good food which has had care, thought and skill put into it.
My sweet tooth is one which needs taming but the Penelope’s dessert menu was a tease and I just could not resist.
I ordered the pancake stack which came with oozing white chocolate sauce and a mild orange-flavoured whipped cream mousse.
Need I say anymore? I genuinely could have eaten it three times over.
The staff were all so friendly, helpful, and the manager loved showing us his videos from the Saturday night before where the whole restaurant was up dancing on tables, swirling their napkins in the air and singing to the tunes.
I’ll be going back to join the party for sure.
