‘An Argentinian national obsession has been brought to London and I’m all for it’

Notting Hill is one of my favourite places in London.
It’s cool, pretty, filled with loads to do and eat, and I love Portobello Road market on a Saturday.
On a recent visit I came across De Nadas.
A bright, fun, yellow-coloured store which is home to a national obsession in Argentina – Empanadas.

Again, I can’t pretend I knew what an Empanada was when I first saw the stor, but I feel all the more advantaged now for knowing.
For context, it’s basically a hand-shaped pastry filled with different foods, and in Argentina Empanada basically just means “wrapped in bread”.
And, that’s pretty much exactly what I got.
I was in the mood for a snack, I hadn’t had lunch, so in I went.
I was faced with a range of different options, friendly staff, smiley faces, and truthfully a bit of a daunting feeling about what was to come.
The owners were full of recommendations, and I chose to try a caprese one, with mozzarella, cherry tomatoes, fresh basil and olive oil, and also the vegan option with squash and kale in.
They were DIVINE.
Kind of like rolled up pizzas, kind of like sandwiches, kind of like savoury pastries.
My boyfriend had the portobello mushroom, chorizo, classic beef and smoked malbec ones.
He absolutely loved them too.
What a lovely treat on a Saturday afternoon paired with a glass of wine.
And, we even got some sneaky intel that there’s another empanadería opening soon in east London – watch this space!
