‘Go underground in central London and get the best pizza you’ve ever had’

Although there are multiple Pizza Pilgrims restaurants dotted around London, I’d never been before.

And wow, wasn’t I missing out?!

I went to the Soho Dean Street restaurant, and there’s not much better than buzzy central London on a Saturday night.

And it turns out there isn’t much better than Pizza Pilgrims pizza either.

The restaurant sits underground, below the kitchen and takeaway.

It’s cool, retro, cosy and colourful inside – and it’s the perfect place for a casual but yummy dinner.

There’s the option to add extras onto your pizza, so I went with a classic and chose a margherita with just some mushrooms on top.

My dining partner had the Nduja, which is a slightly more exotic and exciting pizza with spicy sausage on top – described on the menu as “meat loving, chilli heads”.

We shared a Burrata Caprese Salad too – just in case we didn’t have enough cheese on our hands – and I think I can confidently say it was the best one I’ve ever had.

This is my go-to at Italian restaurants, so I’ve had a fair few, but genuinely the tomatoes and pesto were top notch.

It also came with a huge piece of dough-y bread with it, and again, where I’ve had my fair few my pet hate is when my burrata doesn’t come with bread.

The service was quick, the waiters and waitresses were uber friendly, the restaurant was chilled but vibey and I really enjoyed my experience.

The prices are reasonable, especially for London and especially for Soho on a Saturday night, and there’s more than enough on the menu to cater for pretty much everyone.

With a sweet tooth like never seen before, I can only wish I’d have had room for dessert – and I definitely need to learn to stop eating so much of my main course so that I can eat dessert because it is my favourite part.

I can’t even say which dessert I’d have chosen because with a mini ice cream sandwich, a Nutella pizza ring and a nutellamisu on the menu I reckon I’d have to have got a bit of everything once I’d got started.

I can’t wait to go back to one of the other Pizza Pilgrims branches and eat pizza to my cheese-loving, tomato-drooling, bread-addicting heart’s content.
