London police say one woman is dead following a fire in a trailer home on Dundas Street Monday afternoon.

Fire officials were called to 2189 Dundas Street, just west of Veterans Memorial Parkway, at around 5 p.m. When they arrived, they were told that someone could be trapped within the burning structure.

“When we arrived we found smoke and fire coming from the trailer unit and we had a report that somebody may have been missing at that time,” said London Fire platoon chief Gary Mosburger.

“We did make entry into the home and within seconds we did find somebody within the trailer. We pulled the individual from the trailer and awaited paramedic assistance to transport the individual to hospital.”

The woman was taken to hospital by paramedics with life-threatening injuries, and later died from those injuries, police said Tuesday morning.

In a smaller structure like a trailer, it doesn’t take much time for smoke, super-heated gases, or a fire to fill up the home, Mosburger said.

“It can make injuries more severe, for sure,” he said.

Fire investigators and London police are now probing the origin, cause and circumstances of the fire. Damage is estimated at $150,000.
