The Toronto Blue Jays guaranteed themselves at least a split in the Bronx with a 4-0 win last night and are back in action versus the New York Yankees on Saturday.
The pregame narrative: After losing 13 of their last 16, the Yankees turn to their ace. Gerrit Cole paces the American League in strikeouts and should bolster that stat today while Alejandro Kirk and Aaron Judge are poised for big performances.
Check out our Blue Jays vs. Yankees prop picks for August 20.

Blue Jays vs. Yankees prop picks
Best bet: Cole over 7.5 strikeouts (+100)
The Yankees may be struggling but we like their $324 million dollar man to right the ship.
Cole has surpassed this mark in five of his last seven starts and we see no reason why he can’t keep hurling this afternoon. The righty has started against Toronto just once this season in April and while it wasn’t exactly a virtuoso, we think he’s changed a lot since then.
He fanned six batters in 5.2 innings of work in that start, which was part of a much larger slump for New York’s ace. Cole’s opening month was benign as he rang up a total of 27 batters in 24 IP, while posting a 3.00 ERA.
He’s been much better since.
Cole has an 11.8 K/9 rate from May onwards, which, if we could isolate it, would be good enough for the second-best mark in all of baseball.
He has truly nasty stuff across the board. Cole’s four-seamer has a run value of -12, which makes it one of the best pitches in the majors. His slider hasn’t performed as well as it has in the past but we believe he’s turned the corner on that front as well.
Batters have hit just .083 against that pitch in August.
Key stat: Cole’s season-long K/9 rate of 11.5 is the third-best in MLB.

Kirk over 1.5 total bases (+160): We expect Cole to fan his fair share of batters but don’t think it’ll be a flawless performance. Toronto’s All-Star catcher has awoken from his second-half slumber and is ready to start mashing again.
Kirk has performed well against New York’s starter in very limited appearances, racking up three hits in eight at-bats with a home run. He’s also cleared this mark in three-straight games.
Judge over 1.5 total bases (-125): Judge leads the MLB in total bases with 285 and should add to that total today. He goes against a righty who is just finding his footing in Toronto’s system.
Mitch White makes his third start in a Blue Jays uniform and while he hasn’t been bad, we think this spot may be a bit too big for him. He’s given up nine hits in 9.1 IP for the Jays thus far.
The AL MVP frontrunner has recorded 49 of his 66 extra-base hits against right-handed pitching.
