Police hunt Perth scissor slasher as victim out of hospital

A 29-year-old man who was slashed across the neck with a pair of scissors in Northbridge has been discharged from hospital, as police hunt his attacker.

Dylan Pownall was out having drinks with four friends when the terrifying incident unfolded at about 11.45pm on Friday near the intersection of William and Roe streets.

The group was approached by a man, who started acting erratically and following them down the street.

Josh, who was among the five friends told The West Australian the attacker was “trying to make a scene” and pestering the group.

They then crossed the road to get away but he continued to be verbally abusive to a woman in the group, according to another witness, and started getting aggressive towards the men.

“It all happened pretty quick,” Josh told The West Australian.

“We were trying to get him to move… we told him to go away and he threatened to cut us,” Josh said.

“That’s when he pulled out (the scissors).”

The man allegedly slashed the scissors across the lower part of Mr Pownall’s neck and fled the scene.

Seconds later a patrolling police car pulled up at the scene.

St John Ambulance took Mr Pownall to the Royal Perth Hospital, where he remained in a serious but stable condition overnight.

He was discharged from hospital on Saturday afternoon with a bandage across his neck but in good spirits.

Police blocked off both sides of William Street while forensics examined the scene in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Perth detectives spent Saturday trying to track down the attacker.
