Someone who read my writings said to me, “You of all people must appreciate the freedoms offered by this great nation.”
Yes, I cherish freedom but not total freedom to do whatever I want, like those who claim to be anti-vaxxers and anti-maskers.
I believe in freedoms to achieve the greatest good for mankind, as suggested in the preamble to the Constitution — “We the people,” not “me the person.”
So to all those anti-vaxxers and anti-maskers like the unbelievable 60 million Americans who have not been vaccinated: No, you’re not some glorified freedom fighters. Your gluttony for perceived freedoms may be the single biggest reason for not eradicating COVID-19 and the strains thereof.
As author Peter Marshall said, “May we think of freedom not as the right to do as we please, but as the opportunity to do what is right.”
