Strong winds to batter London as Met Office issues yellow warning ahead of Storm Barra

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for wind in London as Storm Barra is set to batter the UK.

The warning begins at 9am on Tuesday and lasts until 11.59pm on Tuesday night.

It covers the vast majority of the UK, including London, with Scotland also having been issued with a snow warning.

Gusts of 45 to 50mph are expected across the UK with even stronger winds in coastal areas, the Met Office has warned.

The Met Office said there is potential for travel disruption in some places, and said to expect delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport.

Some short term loss of power and other services is also possible.

Tuesday: A dry, frosty start Tuesday but turning very windy through the afternoon, with rain spreading to all parts. Becoming drier during the evening as rain clears but staying windy. Maximum temperature 9 °C.

Outlook for Wednesday to Friday: Winds remaining strong into Wednesday but likely easing by Thursday. Conditions remaining unsettled with further showers or more prolonged rain at times but some bright spells.
