Map shows Covid tiers for every area in England after changes announced this week

Hertfordshire along with several other areas will be placed under Tier 3 restrictions due to rising coronavirus levels.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock addressed MPs in the House of Commons today as he updated the country on Tier changes.

The findings of the first full review of England’s Tier allocations will see large swathes of the south placed under Tier 3 restrictions from Saturday.

Mr Hancock said areas moving into Tier 3 are: Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Peterborough, the whole of Hertfordshire, Surrey with the exception of Waverley, Hastings and Rother on the Kent border of East Sussex, and Portsmouth, Gosport and Havant in Hampshire.

In Hertfordshire, Watford, Broxbourne, Three Rivers and Hertsmere are already in Tier 3, with the districts seeing the highest weekly infection rates of all 10.

But the rest of the county will follow into the toughest restrictions on Saturday, Mr Hancock announced.

Mr Hancock told the Commons that the UK has “come so far” and “mustn’t blow it now” in taking a cautious approach comes amid mounting concern about the prospect of a surge in cases following the easing of restrictions over the Christmas period.

He said: “I know that Tier 3 measures are tough. But the best way for everyone to get out of them is to pull together, not just to follow the rules but do everything they possibly can to stop the spread of the virus.”
