Carshalton fire fundraiser for carpenter who lost ‘irreplaceable’ workshop

A fundraiser has been launched in Carshalton in the aftermath of a fire which destroyed a life-long carpenter’s ‘irreplaceable’ workshop.

Sam Lucas, whose Dad’s workshop was burnt out by the fire, said her father was an “amazing” builder and had been due to retire in the coming years before the flames torched his workshop and virtually everything inside.

As the Sutton Guardian reported, around 40 firefighters were called to the scene of the blaze on Deroy Close at 6.39pm on Wednesday (November 24).

Though the fire was under control by 8.07pm, Sam’s Dad was left without his life’s work and trade after the fire destroyed his workshop.

Sam told the Sutton Guardian:

“On Wednesday 24th November there was a devastating fire in my father’s workshop, which is located in his garden. Around 40 firefighters arrived to battle the fire but sadly everything was destroyed.

“He is a carpenter by trade and an amazing builder. He has lived in the area all his life and was due to retire in the next few years from building contracting to pursue carpentry work at home. He had over 40 years of tools and materials that he had saved; along with some irreplaceable memorabilia.”

Sam and the rest of the family have since launched a community GoFundMe to help go some way to alleviating the impact of the fire, with £800 of a £5,000 goal raised so far.

“I have set up a Gofundme page to help raise money to enable him to buy some tools which will allow him to continue working and help with the massive clean up operation,” she said.
