The 90-year-old Star Trek actor who will see outer space

Star Trek actor William Shatner will be launching himself into space in Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’ rocket ship, reports confirm.

It seems the 90-year-old sci-fi actor still has questions about outer space, despite his four-year run on the famous galactic series as Captain James T Kirk.

Age is certainly not holding Shatner back, with the legendary actor’s 15-minute flight to occur sometime in October, TMZ reports.

The flight will reportedly be filmed for an upcoming documentary featuring Shatner, who has a career spanning seven decades.

Bezos, 57, launched his first space venture in July, flying up to space with his brother, Mark Bezos. The pair were joined by 82-year-old pilot Wally Funk — then the oldest person to fly to space — and rich Dutch student Oliver Daemen, who at 18, was the youngest person to fly to space.

The foursome reached reported heights of 107 kilometres above Earth and spent about 10 minutes off the ground.

At the time, Bezos said: “I … want to thank every Amazon employee, and every Amazon customer, because you guys paid for all this.

“The atmosphere is so big. But when you get up above it, you see it’s this tiny little fragile thing.

“That’s very profound. It’s one thing to recognise that intellectually. It’s another thing to actually see with your own eyes how fragile it really is, and that was amazing.”
