Prey’s Amber Midthunder Reveals Biggest Concern With Predator Prequel

Prey star Amber Midthunder has revealed what her biggest concern was when making the Predator prequel.

Last month Prey debuted on Hulu and was far better than anyone could have hoped to expect. The film had the biggest original premiere in the history of the streaming service and currently holds a 93% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Star Amber Midthunder, however, had one big concern when it came to the Predator prequel.

Prey takes place in the 1700s and follows a Comanche woman named Naru as she hunts a Predator. The cast is primarily made up of Native American actors with the only caucasian actors playing villainous French trappers. As it turned out, however, this was a point of some concern for Amber Midthunder.

In a recent interview with Collider, Amber Midthunder revealed that her biggest concern with Prey was how Native Americans would feel about it, which weighed heavily on her throughout the film’s production:

“Really, the thing that I was thinking about the most, in making the movie, and then releasing the movie, was how Native people would feel about it. Indian country’s response to the movie was really what I felt the most anxious about. That was the biggest thing that was weighing on me, what the response for that would be. I feel like that’s who the movie was for and that’s what the movie was about, so to have it come out in that way, and to have Comanche people respond well, and to have Native people, in general, respond well, was a huge sigh of relief.”

Here is the synopsis for the latest film in the Predator franchise, Prey:

Set in the Comanche Nation 300 years ago, “Prey” is the story of a young woman, Naru, a fierce and highly skilled warrior. She has been raised in the shadow of some of the most legendary hunters who roam the Great Plains, so when danger threatens her camp, she sets out to protect her people. The prey she stalks, and ultimately confronts, turns out to be a highly evolved alien predator with a technically advanced arsenal, resulting in a vicious and terrifying showdown between the two adversaries.

Directed by Dan Trachtenberg from a script written by Patrick Aison, Prey stars Amber Midthunder, Dakota Beavers, Stormee Kipp, Michelle Thrush, and Julian Black Antelope.
