Alec Baldwin’s ‘heart is broken’ after fatal prop gun shooting on movie set

Alec Baldwin has broken his silence after a prop gun accident on the set of his new movie Rust, killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and wounded director Joel Souza.

Taking to Twitter the actor who fired the shot during filming told fans he is “fully co-operating” with police in New Mexico following the tragic incident.

“There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother and deeply admired colleague of ours,” Baldwin tweeted, before sharing screen shots of the tweets on Instagram also.

“I’m fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred and I am in touch with her husband, offering my support to him and his family.

“My heart is broken for her husband, their son, and all who knew and loved Halyna.”

Baldwin stars in the movie and is also a producer on the film, which is being shot in the desert in New Mexico at Bonanza Creek Ranch, a popular production location south of Santa Fe.

Production has been paused while police investigate the shooting.

“The sheriff’s office confirms that two individuals were shot on the set of Rust. Halyna Hutchins, 42, director of photography, and Joel Souza, 48, director, were shot when a prop firearm was discharged by Alec Baldwin, 68, producer and actor,” the police said in a statement.
