Roman Josi led all defencemen with 96 points last season, becoming the first defenceman since Ray Bourque in 1993-94 to reach the 90-point mark. But don’t expect the 32-year-old to repeat that level of production — or to even hit the over on a betting line set by BetOnline.ag at 75.5 points — this year.
And the reason has less to do with Josi, who had previously never scored more than 65 points in a season, than it does the players around him, specifically Nashville’s Matt Duchene and Filip Forsberg, who each hit the 40-goal mark for the first time in their careers.
Unless you think both Duchene and Forsberg are going to be battling for the Rocket Richard Trophy again, you can bet that the Predators defencemen, who racked up 73 assists, will not get even remotely close to the numbers that he put up last year.
