For many, moving home is a series of new experiences. New location, new neighbours and a new postal code.

However, some Canadians live in postal codes that happen to be more than just a randomised series of letters and numbers.

New research by has revealed the most unusual postal codes in Canada and the U.K. – and looked at the potential it can have on your house prices.

Head to Timmins, Ontario and you’ll find the postcode P4N1C5 (PANICS), not at all fitting for an area of natural wintery beauty. Then there’s M4X1M5 (MAXIM) which is associated with a vibrant area of downtown Toronto that many Canadians know it as, while it can’t be easy to sell a new build in R3L1C5 (RELICS), Winnipeg.

With the average Canadian house price currently around $716,828 – living in a postal code may actually effect your house price, says Eve Bennett, a spokesperson for uk. And it could work in both directions, she adds.

“Although the study hasn’t looked as in-depth into Canadian house prices, the study showed that in the UK certain postal codes increased and decreased the value of the property so we can only assume this would be the same worldwide,” she says.

By way of example,  Exeter’s postcode in the UK, 5EX (SEX) concluded that ‘sex sells’ and despite being highly unfortunate, the average house price was 2.76% higher than the national average.

“There has been a recent trend of street names, house numbers and other factors having an influence on people’s decisions and postcodes are one of them – so it seems that people are beginning to care more about these factors more,” she adds..

Some of the more unusual postcodes in Canada:

B4N4N4 (banana) Kentville, N.S.
