Lustre Parfait is the first single to drop from the coming collaborative album from Gord Downie and Bob Rock.
Downie, the late frontman of the Tragically Hip, and legendary producer Rock began work on the project almost a decade ago when the HIp were in studio with Rock for 2006s World Container and 2009s We Are All the Same. During those sessions, Downie approached Rock inquiring if he had any music that he could write for.
Once the project began, the two dove deep into Downie’s many notebooks and Rock’s musical ideas.
“First and foremost Gord was my friend, and having the opportunity to work with him on these songs was one of the biggest highlights of my professional life,” says Rock in the single press release. “I am grateful that I got to witness his genius in such close proximity.”
Lustre Parfait includes Jamey Koch on bass, Adam Greenholtz on keyboards and percussion and a host of other contributors that Rock enlisted. Saxophonist Tom Keenlyside and trumpeter Steve Madaio on trumpet contribute brass blasts with a host of other contributors.
Canadian music icon Downie is sure to be well-represented in coming years with this new album and other archival releases.
The Tragically Hip released Live At the Roxy in January 2022.
