An impaired driving investigation in Windsor’s west end Thursday morning resulted in charges of resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer.
At 10:30 a.m., patrol officers responded to a report of an impaired driver in the 2600 block of Tecumseh Road West.
Police arrived and located a male driver inside a black Jeep parked outside a business and determined he was impaired. When they advised the driver he was being arrested, he tried to flee in his vehicle. He then got out and fled on foot.
An officer caught up to the suspect “and a struggle ensued, during which time the officer was assaulted,” police said in a news release on Friday. The suspect also reportedly tried to take the officer’s conducted energy weapon.
The suspect continued to run, but was found and arrested in the 1400 block of St. Clair Avenue, about a block away.
The officer sustained “some minor injuries,” police said.
